“Without wishing to sound like a cliche, it truly is humbling to meet and communicate with the men and women who use Stable family home trust. It puts ones petty issues into perspective. Each person is a character in their own right, and it is amazing to see the difficulties they cope with, and yet how they can lead happier lives thanks to the care and support of all the people involved.”

Volunteers

VOLUNTEERS play a vital and valued role in the support we provide enabling us to offer greater choice to all our Service users.

Volunteering at SFHT includes support with Special Skills: Pottery, Woodwork, Art & Craft, Music & Dance, IT/Computers, Gardening. Sports & Leisure: Snooker, Bowling, Swimming, Walking, Gym - these are just a few of the Activities that we offer which always need support. A Volunteer may wish to drive for the Trust or accompany our clients on social outings & excursions. The opportunity is for the Volunteer to choose an area preferable to them.

We are fortunate enough to have more than 30 Volunteers at present and we continue to recruit more. Our Volunteers range from young people undertaking studies who need to build up skills & experience in their chosen field, those who are looking for a stepping stone back to work or who are looking for a change in their career, some who find themselves lonely at home - their families having grown up, and also those who have retired and at last have time to do what they desire!

All Volunteers are required to undertake an Enhanced CRB Disclosure and provide two satisfactory character references. Upon completion of the recruitment process we offer Induction, Training and Supervision. All travel expenses are reimbursed. Our Volunteers are never out of pocket and hopefully leave the Stables with a great sense of reward.

“Recently retired I needed, in some way, to use the knowledge and skills I still have to help others. At the Stables I can do this in many ways. The benefits are that each week I am enthusiastically welcomed by all my new friends who make me feel that I can make a small contribution in a challenging and extremely happy environment.”
