SFHT started its first Supported Living Service in August 2016 and has plans to develop another 6 services over the next year. In Supported Living Services, individuals have their own tenancy agreements with a registered housing association.

This separates housing and support and ensures people enjoy the full housing rights as anyone else would have. SFHT staff act as personal assistants ensuring that people get to live the lifestyle they choose.

Each individual has a personalised support plan that gives specific information on the support required and also how the individual would like to be supported.

All Supported Living locations will be close to local shops and amenities and have easy transport links. For some people, supported living will mean gaining greater independence, gaining skills to have different experiences and achieving more for themselves.

However, there is no reason why people with higher support needs cannot live in a Supported Living environment. This will simply mean people have support plans that will clearly indicate to their personal assistant when and how they need support. This may include issues relating to personal care, money management, cooking or any area of daily life where people need support. SFHT work closely with housing associations, ensuring that each property is of a high standard that creates a comfortable living environment.

Our philosophy is simple. We believe anyone can live anywhere with the correct support.

A very important element is to ensure that people have a choice of where they live and who they live with. These issues are taken into consideration when assessing people needs and wishes. It has been amazing to see how quickly people have developed, taking on the responsibilities and tasks that having your own home brings.

Our housing model ensures that as well as having their own place, people also have shared areas to socialise and plan activates together if they wish to.

It’s good to hear the tenants make regular statements such as “I love my new life” Who would have thought that shopping, peeling potatoes, doing your own laundry and paying bills could be so exciting.

For the people we support, being able to do the ordinary things we all take for granted can be a great achievement and a real boost to self-esteem and confidence.

SFHT aspires to achieve the REACH Standards for Supported Living:

  • I choose who I live with
  • I choose where I live
  • I have my own home
  • I choose how I am supported
  • I choose who supports me
  • I get good support
  • I choose my friendships and relationships
  • I choose how to be healthy and safe
  • I choose how I take part in the community
  • I have the same rights and responsibilities as other citizens
  • I get help to make changes in my life

SFHT is actively developing supported living services and expect to have a number of opportunities for people over the coming year.
